Artober

Turkish name for autumn is sonbahar, or 'last spring'.  Even though the trees and flowers won't blossom, Istanbul's art scene definitely will. After lazy summer nap, the art scene in Istanbul woke up. October (actually already the last day of September) will kick off with Istanbul Gallery Weekend, followed with Days of opened Studios and will finish with Istanbul Design Biennale... and this are only the main events, since most of the galleries are opening new exhibitions these days. So enjoy the October full of art.

The description of the event on the official page of the Istanbul Gallery Weekend:
Map of the galleries, participating in the IGW

''The 14 member galleries of the Contemporary Art Galleries Solidarity (ÇSGD) have come together to form "Istanbul Gallery Weekend" (IGW). The inaugural edition of Istanbul Gallery Weekend" will take place from the 30th of September to 2nd of October 2016.

Istanbul Gallery Weekend will feature other select galleries from Istanbul as well as the members of the Contemporary Art Galleries Solidarity. This 3 day event looks to highlight the new 2016/2017 exhibition season opening shows during which the galleries will have extended opening times allowing art lovers ample opportunity to see the shows on offer. All galleries participating in IGW will be open between 11:00 - 21.00 on Friday September 30th and Saturday October 1st and between 12:00-19:00 on Sunday October 2nd.

This annual event synchronizing local galleries in opening the season aims to celebrate the wealth of what Istanbul has on offer with artists, art enthusiasts, and galleries and to act as a platform for future events and projects.''

Come and enjoy!
(P.S.: there is no entrance fee!)

October will finish with 3rd Istanbul Design Biennale, which will take place in different venues around the city, main venues being Galata Rum Ilkokulu (personally my favourite exhibition venue), Istanbul Archeology Museum, Studio-X, Depo and Alt (Bomonti). Besides usual expositions, there will also open so-called Creative Districts, where designers will be able to present their own brand within their own neighborhoods.

An interesting article about the biennale was published at Archdaily , you can get all other useful information at the official page of the biennale.

Photograps will decorate streets of Beşiktaş and Ortaköy. Apart from photographic exhibition, you can also attend lectures. You can get more information about the events at the official page. For the exact location of the exhibition venues, check the map below.
